2008-09 Competitive Cheer Rules Changes

The following recommendations were approved by the MHSAA Representative Council at its May meeting:

Motion by Wendy Shepard, supported by Ken Dietz, to approve the Girls Competitive Cheer Committee recommendation to adopt the eight technical recommendations advanced from the Competitive Cheer Subcommittee.  Adopted.

Motion by Karen Leinaar, supported by Vic Michaels, to reformat the 2009 Competitive Cheer Tournament by adding six Districts in each division, from which four teams would advance to each of two Regions in each division, from which four teams would advance to the Finals in each division.  Adopted.

Motion by Scott Grimes, supported by Rudy Godefroidt, to approve the assembling of an editing group this summer to further update and review the Competitive Cheer Manual in readiness for its first two-year cycle.  Adopted.

Motion by Kris Isom, supported by Wendy Shepard, to approve the retention of the “precision drill” for two years, beginning with the 2008-09 school year.  Adopted.

Motion by Karen Leinaar, supported by Lafayette Evans, to approve the addition of a comment space on score sheets to allow for clarity with coaches.  Adopted.

Motion by Rudy Godefroidt, supported by Karen Leinaar, to approve the Girls Competitive Cheer Committee recommendation to allow for round sheets to be altered up to one-half hour prior to the competition, without penalty.  Adopted.
